Vaginal Mesh Lawsuit Filed by Wright & Schulte LLC on Behalf of a Nebraska Woman Alleging Her Irreversible Injuries Were Caused by Boston Scientific’s Transvaginal Mesh
Date:6/7/2013

Columbus, OH (PRWEB) June 07, 2013

Wright & Schulte attorneys have filed another vaginal lawsuit against the Boston Scientific Corporation. This transvaginal mesh lawsuit or bladder mesh lawsuit (case no. 2:13-cv-04153) is part of MDL 2326 and was filed in April of 2013 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia, Charleston Division. According to court documents for this case, the defective design of Boston Scientific’s bladder mesh sling caused the plaintiff, a Nebraska woman, to develop from debilitating complications that negatively affected her quality of life. Furthermore, this lawsuit contends that Boston Scientific failed to alert the public about the risks of serious injuries associated with its transvaginal mesh slings.

Alleged Injuries in Bladder Mesh Sling Lawsuit
The complaint (case no. 2:13-cv-04153) explains that the plaintiff underwent surgery in May 2009 to have Boston Scientific’s Obtryx Transobturator Mid-Urethral Sling System implanted. This bladder mesh sling was implanted in an effort to treat the plaintiff’s pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and stress urinary incontinence (SUI). Following implantation of the Obtryx Sling System, however, the plaintiff began experiencing painful complications that, ultimately, required her to undergo revision surgery to have the device removed. Court documents for this case also explain that the Boston Scientific knew or should have known about the risk of severe injuries and complications associated with its Obtryx Sling System and, yet, it failed to properly warn the public about these potential dangers.

Some of the serious problems associated with Boston Scientific’s Obtryx Sling System and other transvaginal mesh implants have reportedly included urinary pain, pain during intercourse, vaginal scaring, mesh erosion through the vaginal lining, an increased risk of infection, puncturing of the blood vessels/bowels/bladder and recurrence of SUI. Vaginal Mesh Complications Are Not Rare, Warns FDA
In July 2011, the FDA issued a safety warning to alert the public that vaginal mesh sling complications are not rare. In fact, after reviewing more than 100 studies on mesh slings, the FDA found that about 10 percent of women with a bladder mesh sling has developed or would develop serious complications. The FDA also warned in 2011 that many of mesh sling injuries required risky revision surgery and possibly the removal of the mesh sling within one year of implantation. In the worst cases, some women had to undergo multiple corrective surgeries to treat the severe complications allegedly caused by the defective vaginal mesh devices.

Additionally, the FDA’s 2011 bladder mesh sling warning also highlighted the fact that women with vaginal mesh slings were more likely to experience complications than those who had undergone traditional surgery for POP and SUI and that vaginal mesh may not be effective at relieving the symptoms of prolapse.
