SHERMAN OAKS, Calif., July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Recognizing the importance of educating consumers about the nutritional value of their daily diets, Sunkist recently launched the Daily Diet Review site at http://www.sunkistdailydiet.com to provide users with a free, easy-to-use, always accessible method to accurately track their food consumption and exercise habits online.

According to a recent study published in the August '08 edition of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, keeping a detailed account of what you eat and drink and the calories it packs is a powerful tool in helping people lose weight. The study followed 1,685 overweight or obese U.S. adults for a six-month period. The participants were asked to keep food diaries and were encouraged to eat a healthy diet and be physically active. At the end of the six months, those keeping food diaries regularly lost twice as much weight (18 pounds or 8 kg) than those who did not (9 pounds or 4 kg).

On the heels of this new research, Sunkist is urging people to take advantage of their free online food diary that automatically calculates calories to help users achieve their weight loss goals. "Sunkist recognized the need for a program that allowed users to be accountable for their daily diet. We launched the site in order to provide them with a free and convenient way to track their food consumption and activity on a daily basis," said Claire Smith, Director of Corporate Communications at Sunkist Growers. "We're pleased that nearly 2,000 people have already used the program."

The Sunkist Daily Diet Review site keeps running totals of caloric intake as well as cholesterol, fat, carbs, sugars, protein, etc. so that users can easily monitor their eating habits. In addition, the site allows users to:
-- Create their own food diary

-- Get a clear picture of their nutritional intake

-- Discover healthy food alternatives

-- Keep track of exercise and calories burned
