According to a recent study published in the August '08 edition of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, keeping a detailed account of what you eat and drink and the calories it packs is a powerful tool in helping people lose weight. The study followed 1,685 overweight or obese U.S. adults for a six-month period. The participants were asked to keep food diaries and were encouraged to eat a healthy diet and be physically active. At the end of the six months, those keeping food diaries regularly lost twice as much weight (18 pounds or 8 kg) than those who did not (9 pounds or 4 kg).
On the heels of this new research, Sunkist is urging people to take advantage of their free online food diary that automatically calculates calories to help users achieve their weight loss goals. "Sunkist recognized the need for a program that allowed users to be accountable for their daily diet. We launched the site in order to provide them with a free and convenient way to track their food consumption and activity on a daily basis," said Claire Smith, Director of Corporate Communications at Sunkist Growers. "We're pleased that nearly 2,000 people have already used the program."
