Urgent Care Association of America Launches Program to Educate Congress on Urgent Care
Date:8/5/2009

WARRENVILLE, Ill., Aug. 5 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Urgent Care Association of America (www.ucaoa.org) is reaching out to key members of Congress to offer assistance in the ongoing health care reform initiatives.

Recognizing that high quality, easy-access, reasonable-cost care is a critical part of any patient-centered health care system, UCAOA wants to make sure that all members of Congress involved in health reform are aware that over 8,000 urgent care centers across the nation are already providing that care.

Letters of introduction and an industry information kit were sent to key decision makers in Congress, as well as other leaders in the health care industry last week. This kit is also available to the public at http://www.ucaoa.org/home_abouturgentcare.php.

"Urgent care centers are already well-positioned to play a vital role in health care reform. With no-appointment extended-hours access, a broad scope of primary care services, and insurance or cash-pay options, urgent care centers can provide quality care to patients TODAY. Urgent care helps keep colds, backaches, and sinus infections from getting worse, and keeps lacerations, sprains and stomach flu out of the emergency room. Patients get the right care, at the right time, in the right place, and at the right cost. It's critical for lawmakers to not overlook the value urgent care centers bring to the American public as the health care reform debate continues," says Dr. Don Dillahunty, President of UCAOA.

In addition, UCAOA is providing all of its Members with resources to enhance this effort locally during the August recess. As legislators are using this time to "test the waters" with the American public, there is no better time to reach out.
