Upcoming Praeclarus Press/Simkin Center Webinar Teaches How to Help Parents Prepare for Birth after Previous Traumatic Childbirth
Date:11/30/2013

Amarillo, Texas (PRWEB) November 30, 2013

Almost half of American mothers describe their child’s birth as traumatic. An upcoming webinar introduces a psychoeducational curriculum designed to help parents acknowledge their earlier experience, release and work with anxiety, and reclaim confidence as a birthing couple.

Praeclarus Press, the Simkin Center for Allied Birth Vocations at Bastyr University, and PATTCh (Prevention and Treatment of Traumatic Childbirth), are pleased to present a live webinar: Another Birth/Another Story: Preparing Pregnant Couples for Birth after Previous Birth Trauma. Suzanne Swanson and Susan Lane will present this webinar on December 5, 1 pm EST.

The goals of this webinar are to help attendees identify symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other reactions to trauma. Many factors can make a woman vulnerable to experiencing a birth as traumatic, such as previous trauma, sexual abuse, sexual assault, or domestic violence. This webinar will help parents and providers understand the difference between trauma as an event and trauma as a response.

Participants will learn how to use a small-group approach for preparing couples for birth after previous birth trauma, and to help parents lessen the effects of the past experience on the present birth.

Sign up today to reserve your spot to attend this live webinar, December 5, 2013, 1:00 p.m. EST.
