TAMPA, Fla., Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Lifestyle changes that include regular wellness check-ups, daily exercise, better food choices and stress management techniques result in fewer trips to the doctor or emergency room, insure a more productive workforce and reduce the burden of healthcare on us all. Further, the CDC reports that just 45 minutes of daily exercise can have a positive impact on chronic diseases associated with being overweight, like high blood pressure, diabetes, digestive system disorders, cardiovascular disease and even some cancers.
DANCING TO BE FIT
Taking her cue from popular dance shows like, Dancing with the Stars, So You Think You Can Dance, Randy Jackson's America's Best Dance Crew and the latest show in this category, Dance You're Axx Off, Carolyn Lighty decided to bring the dance craze to life in the Bay area as a means to get people engaged in an effective daily exercise program. A team of dance instructors, medical industry service providers, nutritionists and psychologists will direct different aspects of the program which has been designed to help people change behaviors and adopt a healthier lifestyle. Members will have fun, tone and shape their bodies while they burn from 300 - 1200 calories per class as they learn Salsa, Hip-Hop, Ballroom, Zumba, Afro-Cuban and Belly Dancing routines in a 6-day-per-week, 6-week weight loss challenge. Prizes will be awarded in 3 categories, the most weight lost, the most inches lost and the biggest decrease in BMI.
DANCING FOR A CAUSE
The highlight of the program's launch event on Saturday, August 29th is an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest aerobic dance class in the world. While the current record is 7770, won by a dance group in the Philippines on June 29, 2009, Carolyn hopes that even if they don't break the record, the event will help raise funds for two area non-profits that are committed to health and wellness. Healthy Together Tampa Bay has been a community wellness champion for the past couple of years, bringing the heads of major corporations together to educate and advocate for healthier lifestyles and Sister's Network Tampa has been providing free mammograms and gynecological exams to area women that don't have health insurance.
"We have enjoyed wonderful relationships with many community organizations over the years and see Just Dance Tampa Bay as a terrific opportunity to welcome new customers to the Mall while also supporting this community health initiative," said Thomas Locke, General Manager of the newly renovated University Mall.
