United Spinal Association's 2nd Annual Disability Leadership & Policy Summit: Health Issues and People with Disabilities

NEW YORK, May 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The 2nd Annual Disability Leadership & Policy Summit: Health Issues and People with Disabilities, a unique gathering to promote an exchange of ideas between people with disabilities and public officials, disability rights advocates, educators, business leaders, and health and human service professionals will convene on Wednesday, June 3rd, at Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY.

Featured speakers and their topics include:

  • Peter Thomas, Esq., of Washington, DC, Co-chair of the Health Task Force of the Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD). Mr. Thomas will discuss health care reform proposals of the Congress and Obama administration.
  • Dr. Mary Curtis, Deputy Nassau County Executive for Health and Human Services. Dr. Curtis will discuss how Nassau County will cope despite state budget cuts as well as respond to health care reform proposals.
  • Dr. Adam B. Stein, Chairman, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, The North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System, will identify problems and propose solutions to delivering quality care in our community.
  • Additionally, Jamie S. Mitus, PhD, CRC, LCPC, Hofstra University, Rehabilitation Counseling Program, will discuss the relationship of work to health care.

Following each presentation, the forum will be interactive between speakers and the audience.
