United Church Homes and Services Announce New Affordable Housing Community for Seniors

Lexington, North Carolina (PRWEB) August 22, 2014

Carolina Senior Living Apartments, owned and operated by United Church Homes and Services (UCHS), recently opened 30 spacious one-bedroom affordable residential units for frail and at risk seniors with limited resources in Lexington, NC. Each unit is equipped with an open floor plan, fully operational kitchen, individually controlled heating and cooling system, and secured entry.

The HUD Section 202 supportive housing community, consists of a three-story building with an elevator and includes a multipurpose community room with a kitchen, a screened-in porch, a common laundry room, library, a welcoming lobby, and an office for staff. The 30-unit project is certified under the EarthCraft green building program to ensure efficient and sustainable design and construction.

Carolina Senior Living will staff a full time on-site manager, as well as, a part-time service coordinator and maintenance technician.

Carolina Senior Living apartments are adjacent to and closely associated with a UCHS sister facility, Carolina SeniorCare, a Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE). The two programs work hand and glove to fill a void within the Lexington community for those economically challenged and often frail and at risk. Carolina Senior Living provides a safe and secure neighborhood setting for those 62 and older with limited resources, while Carolina SeniorCare PACE provides socialization, hot meals, clinical care and transportation. Carolina Senior Living follows rules, regulations and laws of the Fair Housing Act and Equal Housing Opportunity in which there are no barriers to obtaining housing because of age, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, or national orgin.

“This project stays true to the UCHS mission of offering diverse programs of outreach and making programs accessible and affordable for all income levels," shared Lee Syria, President/CEO of United Church Homes and Services. "We are excited to be bringing these services to Lexington."

United Church Homes & Services, a not-for-profit corporation located in Newton, NC, operates three continuing care retirement communities, a PACE (Program for All-inclusive Care for the Elderly), and seven HUD Section 202 supportive housing communities across North Carolina and Virginia.
