High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) now Available at New Location in
Mexico
CANCUN, Mexico, Nov. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- A new clinic in Cancun, Mexico will offer treatment of localized prostate cancer with HIFU, an ultrasound therapy. This is the second facility in Mexico to offer this therapy; HIFU is also available at Hospital San Javier located in Puerto Vallarta.
This month, HIFU became available at Galenia Hospital, a private, functional hospital with a modern, minimalist atmosphere especially designed for the comfort of both patients and physicians. Galenia opened in Cancun in March 2006 to offer services to patients at the popular travel destination. Adding the Cancun facility to the locations that already offer HIFU in Mexico, Canada, the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas allows for optimal flexibility for those seeking HIFU.
Cancun becomes the seventh location outside of the U.S. in North and South America to offer HIFU for localized prostate cancer and BPH. Other locations include Toronto, Canada; Niagara Falls, Canada; Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and San Jose, Costa Rica.
The Sonablate(R) 500, the HIFU treatment device, is not approved for use in the U.S. The device remains investigational in the U.S. and is being studied for the treatment of prostate cancer in clinical trials in the U.S. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has made no decision as to the safety or efficacy of the Sonablate(R) 500 for the treatment of prostate cancer.
The Sonablate(R) 500 is intended for use by licensed practitioners. You should consult your doctor for further information about HIFU with the Sonablate(R) 500.
