US Oncology Celebrates Consecutive Safety
Date:12/3/2009

HOUSTON, Dec. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Three US Oncology, Inc. businesses received a Safety Excellence Perfect Record Award in the Occupational Safety & Health category from the National Safety Council. Since inception in 2005, US Oncology Specialty, LP; US Oncology Clinical & Research Pharmacy distribution center; and OncologyRx Care Advantage(TM) oral oncology pharmacy have continuously received the Occupational Excellence Award from the national organization, making this the third year the US Oncology businesses have been awarded. More information can be found at www.usoncology.com.

"We are very proud of our continuous safety record," says Rolando DeCardenas, vice president and general manager of the three US Oncology companies. "It is very difficult in the distribution business to go through a year of no accidents. To be able to achieve this continuously since inception, and for all three businesses, speaks volumes about the safety initiatives we have in place. The managers and leaders of the business units, our Compliance team, and the associates have done a great job of eliminating workplace accidents. We are very proud of this accomplishment."

The award is presented to companies, units and/or facilities that have completed a period of at least 12 consecutive months without incurring an occupational injury or illness that resulted in days away from work or death.

From 2008 to 2009, US Oncology Specialty, OncologyRx Care Advantage, and US Oncology Clinical & Research Pharmacy distribution center each achieved a zero percent incidence rate for number of days away from work. Following are the 2009 statistics for each:

  • US Oncology Specialty, LP - 34 employees who worked 63,628 hours
  • OncologyRx Care Advantage--25 employees working 47,765 hours
  • US Oncology Clinical & Research Pharmacy distribution center --16 employees who worked 29,989 hours
