BINGHAM FARMS, Mich., Oct. 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- United Physicians, P.C., an organization of 1,900 independent doctors practicing in Southeast Michigan, has been recertified by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) in Utilization Management. NCQA is an independent, non-profit organization that certifies physician organizations and accredits managed care preferred provider organizations.
"We are proud that NCQA once again has certified that our utilization management processes meet or exceed national standards," said Steven Grant, M.D., F.A.C.P., president and chief executive officer of United Physicians. "The utilization management services we provide are integral to our mission of serving the professional and economic interests of members and the community at large."
In 2000, United Physicians became the first physician organization in the tri-county Detroit area to receive certification by NCQA in any category, being Credentialing and Recredentialing. The organization received its first certification in Utilization Management in 2001. United Physicians is among a select few physician organizations nationwide to hold certification in multiple NCQA categories.
"Achieving PO certification from NCQA demonstrates that United Physicians has the systems, process and personnel in place to conduct credentialing in accordance with the strictest quality standards," said NCQA Margaret E. O'Kane.
NCQA surveys are rigorous on and off-site evaluations conducted by a team of physicians and managed care experts. A national oversight committee of physicians analyzes the team's findings and determines certification based on the physician organization's performance compared to NCQA standards. United Physicians is certified for Utilization Management for the period of September 14, 2007 through September 14, 2009.
