Tucson Retirement Community’s Health Center Makes “America’s Best Nursing Homes” List

Tucson, Ariz. (Vocus) February 2, 2010 -- A Tucson retirement community’s health center, Sonora at Splendido, has been ranked as one of “America’s Best Nursing Homes” by U.S. News and World Report. The designation will appear in the national magazine’s February 2010 issue.

Sonora at Splendido is the only Southern Arizona health center listed in the magazine. Approximately 170 other nursing homes across the country were showcased for their most recent, positive evaluations by Nursing Home Compare, a program run by the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

“Being named to this prestigious list is a great honor and testament to the care we provide to our residents,” said Nellie Sorrell, administrator at Sonora.

Homes receive ratings of one to five stars in each of three areas: health inspections, nurse staffing and measures of care. Sonora received an overall five-star rating with five stars in the health inspections and quality measures sections and four stars in nurse staffing.

Sonora offers 60 private apartments and suites dedicated to assisted living, memory support, skilled nursing and rehabilitation, short-term stays and hospice care. The health center is on the grounds of Splendido on Rancho Vistoso Boulevard and is open to the public.
