U.S. Census Bureau Daily Feature for March 15
Date:3/15/2008

WASHINGTON, March 15 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Following is the daily "Profile America" feature from the U.S. Census Bureau:

SATURDAY, MARCH 15: LAUGHTER, THE BEST MEDICINE

Profile America -- Saturday, March 15th. If you're feeling tense, perhaps overwhelmed and you need too many antacids it's time to pause, stand back and reflect that there is humor in much of life. March will see several events celebrating the value of laughter and those who make us laugh. It's International Mirth Month and also Humorists are Artists Month. Experts have known for some time that there is truth to the old saying "laughter is the best medicine," noting that laughing is good for us, both mentally and physically, in relieving stress. And stress is a major contributor to heart disease and strokes, the leading causes of death in the U.S., claiming more than 900,000 lives each year. You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau on the Web at http://www.census.gov.

Profile America is produced by the Public Information Office of the U.S. Census Bureau. These daily features are available as produced segments ready to air on a monthly CD or on Internet at http://www.census.gov (look under the "Newsroom" button).
