Tynker Announces Support for Educators, Students and Parents Impacted by Health-Related School Closures
Date:3/11/2020

Tynker, the world’s leading K-12 creative coding platform, today announced that they are offering free Tynker School licenses to all K-12 schools worldwide that may be impacted by health-related closures related to the recent outbreak of novel coronavirus (COVID-19). School systems in impacted regions have announced that their schools will close as a preventative health measure to control the spread of the virus, impacting students, families and educators in many countries around the world.

“Our mission is to enable kids to learn how to create and code in a fun and engaging way, so naturally we are very concerned about the impact of coronavirus-related school closures on students and educators. We’d like to do our part to help by enabling classroom learning to continue in a virtual manner,” said Krishna Vedati, co-founder and CEO of Tynker.

“Our platform is highly intuitive and easy to use so schools should have no problem getting their Tynker virtual classrooms and lesson planning up and running in no time,” continued Vedati. “Since Tynker’s courses also integrate coding into core subjects, teachers can also supplement ongoing remote classes in English, Mathematics, Science, and even Social Studies. At this time we would also like to thank our existing premium Tynker School subscribers, without whom this offer of support to all impacted schools would not be possible.”

Tynker has committed to contribute millions of dollars worth of free Tynker School software licenses to support impacted schools to ensure that student learning can continue remotely on iPADs or virtually any computer with a web browser. Educators and students will have access to the complete Tynker School PreK-12 curriculum, including Tynker Junior for early learners; introductory and intermediate programming courses; and interest-based courses such as micro:bit, Lego WeDo, and drone programming. All public and private schools are eligible and can apply to get full access to the entire Tynker School curriculum and platform at no cost through May 2020 or until their school reopens.

To date, over 600 schools in 43 countries and across 42 U.S. states plus the District of Columbia have signed up to take advantage of this offer.

Tynker is also offering free web-based professional development programs for educators to help them grow their knowledge of coding to implement the most cutting edge PreK-12 Computer Science curriculum available today. Tynker will be running a series of webinars to train educators on how to use Tynker in a remote learning environment; educators can visit the Tynker School training page for details and schedules.

To date, over 60 million children from over 150 countries have enjoyed learning how to create and code on Tynker’s platform.
