NEW YORK, May 8 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Popular television personality Ty Pennington of ABC's hit television show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition will take to the streets to raise awareness about mental illness and recovery on Saturday, May 9, 2009.
Pennington, who lives with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), will participate in the 3rd Annual NAMIWalks NYC to benefit NAMI NYC Metro, a local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
"I live with ADHD," said Pennington. "I know that recovery is possible. We need more mental illness research, education, support and advocacy."
"The WALK is one way we are able to bring the community together, advocate for continued and comprehensive mental health services in New York City, and support our efforts to provide meaningful programs and services to thousands of New Yorkers in need," said Michael Thompson, President, Board of Directors of NAMI NYC Metro.
Check-in for the Walk will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the South Street Seaport in Manhattan. The Walk will start at 10 a.m. This is a free event, and same day registration is available. A Wellness Fair, featuring services such as massage therapy, health screenings, advice from nutritionists, and yoga instruction, will follow the WALK.
