SAN DIEGO, Dec. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- TriWest Healthcare Alliance is contributing $75,000 to three agencies, which support California National Guard members and their families -- the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Foundation, the Sergeants Major Association of California Inc. and the California National Guard Teens program. All three support the needs of more than 21,000 California Guard members and their families during times of deployment.
Dave McIntyre, president and CEO at TriWest, will present the check to these agencies at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 13. The presentation will be aboard the cruise ship "The Adventurer Hornblower" prior to departing. The ship is located at the South Broadway Float, 950 North Harbor Drive, between Broadway Pier and Navy Pier in San Diego.
"As members of civilian communities, National Guard families don't have convenient access to the support available at military bases like Miramar, Travis or Camp Pendleton," McIntyre said. "TriWest is making the contribution with the hope that we can help to bridge that gap for families of the California National Guard."
Since 2001, close to 26,000 members of California's National Guard have served at least one tour of duty in the Global War on Terrorism. Many of those troops have been deployed more than once.
Assistant Adjutant General of the California National Guard, Brig. Gen. Mary J. Kight will also attend the event.
"California ranks among the top three National Guard forces in the nation," Brig. Gen. Kight said. "The large number of Service members and numerous deployments place heavy demands on Guard resources. With TriWest's contribution, life will be a bit easier for Guard members and their families. We are very grateful to TriWest for meeting this need."
