Traveling With Diabetes The Positive Way

McNulty and Peddle are also launching the "Take Heart Campaign" in order to raise money for the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation). They will be collecting handcrafted hearts from each country they visit and after the trip the hearts will be auctioned to the public on eBay. The hearts symbolize hope and the "Take Heart Campaign" is intended to encourage everybody to live their dreams and not let any disability prevent them from living their lives to the full. All proceeds from the auction of the handcrafted hearts will be donated to the JDRF.

The pair will leave Cape Town , South Africa early September 2009, and will travel to Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, (possibly the United States) Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Peru, Brazil, returning to Cape Town in June 2010 in time for the Soccer World Cup, documenting the journey as they go. McNulty is not only a writer, but also a champion of diabetes awareness. She has just been chosen as the winner of the South African leg of the Novo Nordisk Diabetes Media Prize in the print category, for her article, "Sugar Rush" published in Real Simple magazine in July 2008. "Sugar Rush" is an inspiring first-person account of how being diagnosed with diabetes caused Bridget to make positive life changes, and redefine her definition of success.
