OAK BROOK, Ill., March 9 /PRNewswire/ -- For the second year, the University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC) recognizes academic medical center (AMC) members for demonstrating excellence in supply chain management in the UHC Supply Chain Performance Excellence Collaborative. The Collaborative Advisory Team, composed of executives from AMC members and UHC, examined supply chain participants that provided data through UHC's Operational Data Base to measure cost savings and efficiency in supply, pharmacy, cardiology, and surgical services expense management and operating margin.

Awards will be presented to representatives of the 5 top-performing organizations today at the UHC 2009 Performance Excellence Forum in Orlando, Fla., by David Entwistle, chief executive officer, University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics, and co-chairperson of the UHC Collaborative Advisory Team. This year's forum focuses on providing outstanding service in operational, clinical, financial, and supply chain areas, underscoring the meeting's theme, "Sustaining the Art and Science of Service."

This year, the collaborative identified 4 areas of practice in which the 5 top performers excel:

  • Physician advocacy
  • Cultural commitment to cost containment
  • Data-driven behavior
  • Creative strategic partnerships
