Tissue Bank Makes it Easier for Injured Servicemen and Women

EDISON, N.J., May 29 /PRNewswire/ -- The Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation (MTF) will provide military hospitals with special access to tissue needed for cartilage and joint repair for injured servicemen and women.

Military hospitals and facilities will be given priority in obtaining tissue used for cartilage transplantation and meniscus grafts used for joint repair. Already in short supply, these types of tissue are in high demand for U.S. servicemen and women, many of whom have undergone traumatic injury to the cartilage of the knee, ankle or elbow in the course of their duties.

"MTF is proud to assist our servicemen and servicewomen by addressing the needs of military hospitals for specialized allograft tissues that are useful in repairing damaged knee and ankle joints," said Bruce Stroever, MTF President and CEO. "MTF will provide priority access to military hospitals for these grafts which are very difficult to obtain. Our military personnel do so much for our country; it's a pleasure and an honor for us to be able to help them receive the best surgical care possible when the need arises."
