Three Insurance Exchange Experts Will Detail Outreach and Enrollment Strategies in July 31 Webinar

There are fewer than 100 days left until health insurance exchanges begin their first-ever open-enrollment period, but many who will benefit most from expanded coverage — the uninsured — have no clue what is about to happen. Reaching this population, and convincing them to enroll, will be a herculean task for federal and state governments, health plans, brokers, not-for-profits and other stakeholders.“Reaching the 30 Million Uninsured: Effective Outreach and Enrollment Strategies for Insurers, Exchanges and Brokers,” the upcoming July 31 webinar from Atlantic Information Services, Inc. (AIS), will focus on the outreach and enrollment strategies being launched by three very different groups: Enroll America, which on June 22 kicked off its national Get Covered America campaign and is hiring hundreds of people in states where the federal government will operate the exchanges; the Washington Health Benefit Exchange, which is launching its statewide outreach operation; and the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation, which pioneered insurance exchange outreach prior to that state’s landmark 2006 health reform law.

Three experts from these organizations will detail the best practices to employ — and pitfalls to avoid —to reach and enroll the uninsured. In 60 minutes of presentations from Jessica Kendall, director of outreach at Enroll America; Jennifer Lee, senior program officer at the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation; and Michael Marchand, director of communications at the Washington Health Benefit Exchange, followed by 30 minutes devoted to individual questions, participants will gain valuable perspectives and answers to complex questions including:

  • How can organizations identify and reach the uninsured?
  • How far are health plans permitted to go in their marketing and outreach efforts?
  • How can a group’s message get through amid the overlapping messaging among carriers, states, HHS and other stakeholders?
  • Which types of social media will be most effective at reaching the uninsured? Which messages are likely to fail? Which will be more likely to resonate?
  • How should carriers and exchanges partner with community groups, providers and other stakeholders?
  • How can network providers be invaluable allies in reaching the uninsured?
  • What barriers do health plans face in reaching the uninsured in states that oppose the reform law? How can these be overcome?
  • How can community groups be used to explain coverage requirements and federal subsidies to the uninsured?
