MIAMI, Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Is beauty really in the eye of the beholder? Does sex appeal actually have a smell or a particular sound? Are males truly the more promiscuous sex? These and other fascinating questions form part of a provocative Discovery en Espanol special, SCIENCE OF SEX APPEAL, premiering Sunday, February 8 at 9 PM ET (9:00 PM PT) as a prelude to Valentine's Day.
SCIENCE OF SEX APPEAL delves into our deepest subconscious processes and lays them out in shocking detail. Sex appeal is much more than a matter of taste. It is an amalgam of distinct and often surprising components. SCIENCE OF SEX APPEAL isolates every aspect of human attraction and explores what is genetic, hormonal and neurological. What is based on sight, smell and on small, subtle cues like voice and movement? You'll never look at a stranger, your loved one or yourself in quite the same way again.
Scientists used to think that mate preferences were completely arbitrary, but recent studies suggest that there are certain non conscious factors such as sound and smell over which humans have no control that attract people to each other. Scientists wanted to test whether copulins, a natural secretion that women emit to attract men, really affected a man's level of attraction to a woman. So they asked men to rate a group of women in photographs on attractiveness. But when the men were unknowingly given artificial copulins and asked to rate the women, they were unable to distinguish which women were attractive.
Indeed, in nightclubs across the world, an invisible biochemical war is going on. Men secrete androstenone, which repels women who are not ovulating, while women shoot back with copulins, which makes men find all of them sexy. The truly tantalizing mix and varied signals in the mating dance of life, as explored in SCIENCE OF SEX APPEAL, lifts the covers to reveal the astounding science behind what makes us click with one another.
Interesting items to ponder: Do women really get more attractive when they're ovulating? What are the ideal body dimensions that define sexiness in a woman? What in the world is "Eau de Man" and how and why can it repel or attract a female? Also in February and keeping with the Valentine Day's theme ...
Discovery en Espanol takes us to the dark side of passion with WICKED ATTRACTION, a programming marathon special airing February 14th, from 9 PM to 2 AM ET (6 PM to 11 PM PT), which explores deadly love parings and the psychopathic chemistry that drives them. Serial killers are certainly not a new phenomenon, but what happens in the mind of the "average" person when they fall under the spell of a sadistic predator? Deadly pairings and killer couples are legendary but what truly drives them? Little is known about the chemistry between two people that sparks a killing rampage. WICKED ATTRACTION investigates some of the most terrifying crimes in recent history and delves inside the criminal mind to explore the psychological motivations behind these deadly duos. You can also catch episodes of the series every subsequent Monday at 10 PM ET (11 PM PT).
