Hot Summer Days call for BBQ’s, pool parties and trips to the beach. All those activities sound harmless but the sun can affect people more than they realize. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 1 in 3 Americans suffer from sunburns yearly, which immediately raise the risk for skin cancer. What people don’t realize is that although they think they are protecting themselves by soaking their bodies in sunscreen prior to their water sports people tend to become clueless when it comes to the details. This is most likely the reason that skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. TheBeautyPlace.com wants to help rescue skin with sun-smart advice.

Protecting the skin has never been easier, all that’s needed is to remember multiples of five.

Five seconds is how quickly people can soothe their sunburn with a tea bag. Black tea bags contain compounds called tannins that act as an anti-inflammatory for the skin. It helps to minimize redness and aids in preventing peeling. It’s a fairly simple process, place a black tea bag in boiling water, allow it to cool and then dab it on the burn.

Five minutes is the time it takes the scalp to sizzle in the hot sun. What people do not realize is that the sun beats directly on the scalp which makes it one of the fastest places to obtain a burn. Six percent of melanoma cases happen on the scalp and neck.
