The interpretation of healthy eating and a curriculum to prevent childhood obesity

INDIANAPOLIS, IN August 9, 2013 The Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior (JNEB) announces the 2013 Best Article and Best Great Educational Material (GEM) awards to be presented at the Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior (SNEB) annual conference, "Nutrition Education: Going from Good to Great," in Portland, Oregon, August 9 - 12. These annual awards recognize the authors of the best article and best GEM, published each year in JNEB, as judged by members of the JNEB Journal Committee and Board of Editors. All authors will receive a plaque and the lead authors will receive a monetary award.

The Best Article Award will be presented to authors Carole A. Bisogni, PhD; Margaret Jastran, RD; Marc Seligson, BS; Alyssa Thompson, for their article, "How People Interpret Healthy Eating: Contributions of Qualitative Research," published in the July/August 2012 issue of JNEB. The best article was selected from 88 published articles, briefs, and reports. Dr. Bisogni will present the results of the Best Article following the conference opening keynote on Saturday, August 10.

The Best GEM award was presented to Megan Lent, BS; Tisa F. Hill, MPH; Jamie S. Dollahite, PhD, RD; Wendy S. Wolfe, PhD; Katherine L. Dickin, PhD, for "Healthy Children, Healthy Families: Parents Making a Difference! A Curriculum Integrating Key Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Parenting Practices to Help Prevent Childhood Obesity," published in the January/February 2012 issue of JNEB. GEMs are resources developed to educate on certain topics or distribute programs to help in the nutrition education field. The best GEM was selected from 9 published GEMs.
