The Will and Jada Smith Family Foundation and Maybelline Join Forces With the Lupus Foundation of America for a Star-studded Gala to Raise Awareness for Lupus
Date:9/12/2007

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 12 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Lupus Foundation of America (LFA) and Maybelline in association with the Will and Jada Smith Family Foundation is set to host the first annual Butterflies Over Hollywood soiree. The event, to be held at the historic El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles on September 29, 2007, has the specific purpose of raising awareness and funds for lupus.

Butterflies Over Hollywood will be hosted by Malcolm-Jamal Warner (The Cosby Show), and supermodel Tomiko Fraser -- who also created the event. Tomiko is currently in her unprecedented 8th year as the face of Maybelline(R) New York. Tomiko also proudly serves as a national spokesperson for the LFA in support of her sister -- who suffers from lupus. When asked what prompted her to create this event, Tomiko remarked, "I created this event out of the love for my sister. I also created this event because I feel that there needs to be more awareness for lupus, and I hope that by joining forces with Hollywood, we can shed some light on a disease that affects millions."

The LFA will transform the El Rey Theatre into a spectacular Cotton Club- themed night of glamour with special live performances, signature cocktails, and more. As Los Angeles has not seen a 1920's themed event of this caliber in recent history, Butterflies Over Hollywood is sure to be a highly sought after event for celebrities, raising both funds and awareness for lupus.

Lupus is a debilitating immune disorder that can damage any organ. Every half hour another person is diagnosed with lupus, and thousands die each year from its complications. Yet, there has not been a new drug approved for lupus in more than 40 years. The LFA estimates that 1.5-2 million Americans have a form of lupus, but the actual number may be higher. More than 90 percent of people with lupus are women, and currently there is no cure for the disease. The LFA is the nation's leading nonprofit health organization dedicated to find
