Ottawa, Canada (PRWEB) June 18, 2013
The Operational Stress Injury (OSI) Clinic of The Royal Mental Health Center of Ottawa, on behalf of the Canadian OSI Clinic Network today released the iPhone, Android and BlackBerry mobile applications as well as a mobile optimized website for veterans, Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP, their families and their family doctors to understand the top mental health issues facing veterans, including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety and sleep issues.
Developed as a one-stop shop, the OSI Connect application has a series of assessment surveys that allows veterans to privately and discreetly determine the type of referral they may need to discuss with their health care practitioner, and where they might be able to find those clinics in their region. Filled with additional resources, not only for veterans, military and RCMP but their families and their referring doctors, the goal is to drive a rapid diagnosis and allow people to find the help they need. The application includes a link to the PTSD Coach application developed for the iPhone by Veterans Affairs Canada as well as additional applications developed for veterans in the United States.
“Our goal was to create a free mental health learning and self-management mobile app to help OSI clients and their families understand the nature of operational stress injuries (OSIs) and to provide help through the OSI Clinic Network across Canada. The sooner you get help, the sooner you will get better.” said Shelley Hale, Manager, Manager of Patient Care Services: Operational Stress Injury Clinic, The Royal Mental Health Centre of Ottawa.
The mobile applications were developed by Purple Forge (http://www.purpleforge.com) the leading provider of mobile applications for associations, municipalities and governments in Canada. The applications were developed in less than 3 months using a state-of-the-art mobile application content management system that will allow the applications to be updated on-the-fly by the OSI Clinic Network to address the latest content and information as it becomes available.
“It was critical to build the application rapidly due to the increasingly pressing mental health needs of Canada’s veterans who have served both at home and abroad for our country,” said John Craig, the VP of Sales and Marketing for Purple Forge. “It was also important to offer the flexibility to expand the application to include other mental health issues over time. We are very proud to be part of this solution.”
