The Power of a Positive Mindset - Queendom.com’s New Study Reveals That Optimists Enjoy Better Mental and Physical Health

Some call it “pop” psychology; others label it new-age hokum. Whatever the label, the belief that a positive mindset can benefit mental and physical health may not be as flaky a theory as some may think. Queendom.com, a pioneer in online personality tests, has released its latest research on the impact of optimism and pessimism on health. Their research reveals that optimists may have several health advantages over their more negative counterparts.

The power of positive thinking has seen a massive shift in recent years. Aside from the decades of research by renowned positive psychology theorist, Dr. Martin Seligman, proponents of optimism like Oprah Winfrey, Will Smith, and Jim Carrey have also added energy to this new wave of positive consciousness. Positive thinking, at least in their cases, has been the chain that linked ability with success. As Dr. Seligman put it, “A composer can have all the talent of Mozart and a passionate drive to succeed, but if he believes he cannot compose music, he will come to nothing.” But how about the impact of positive thinking on health? Researchers at Queendom.com set out to answer this question.

Analyzing the mindset and health status of over 6,000 people who took the Optimism/Pessimism Test, Queendom’s statistics reveal that optimists tend to have an advantage over pessimists in terms of their health. They are better-equipped to deal with stress (score of 75 vs. 51 on a scale from 0 to 100) and are more confident in their ability to cope with hardship (64 vs. 42). Optimists rated their level of health better than pessimists, while the latter were more likely to be have been diagnosed with
