The Orthopaedic and Spine Institute Offers a Football Accident and Recovery Program for Athletes
Date:8/29/2013

San Antonio, TX (PRWEB) August 29, 2013

Football season is starting and we are going to be seeing more injuries, especially orthopedic related injuries. There are approximately two million high school athletes who have sport injuries. These injuries range from knee reconstructions from torn ACLs or MCLs, shoulder surgeries, and broken bones that have not fully healed. The Orthopaedic and Spine Institute offers football players two centers that can help with these unexpected injuries.

The Excellence in Joint and Extremity Surgery Center offers two of the best surgeons who can help treat, surgically and non-surgically, specific injuries acquired from the sport of football. Dr. Joel B. Nilsson, M.D., F.A.A.O.S., and Dr. Richard E. Duey, M.D., are both specialists in orthopedic sport related injuries. Dr. Nilsson is a fellowship trained orthopedic hand surgeon as well as a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, while Dr. Duey is fellowship trained in shoulder surgery and fellowship trained in orthopedic sports medicine. These two physicians offer a full range of surgical services that include low impact joint replacements such as the direct anterior total hip replacement and tourniquet less total knee replacement. They also perform minimally invasive joint reconstructions with small incisions and cutting edge technologies, such as stem cells to improve healing. Arthroscopic surgery is performed by our surgeons on the shoulder, elbow, wrist, knee and ankle. These minimally invasive innovative techniques can help reduce your hospital stay and maximize your recovery.

The Orthopaedic and Spine Institute also offers the Orthopaedic Rehabilitative Center, headed by Joseph Klotz, D.C., who is board certified in physiotherapy. This rehabilitation center provides the opportunity both preoperatively and postoperatively to improve muscular endurance, strength, flexibility, and balance. In an effort to avoid unnecessary surgery or to recover from it and focus on conservative treatment, we attempt every means possible to return you to normal functioning which has been hampered by trauma, aging, or previous surgeries.

The game is here and it is here to stay. Accidents may occur, therefore, it’s important to be familiar with the superb physicians at the Orthopaedic and Spine Institute, who can expertly and appropriately treat those severe injuries with the best care possible.
