Non-Profit Providing Support to Family & Friends of those with Mental Health Problems Looks to Interactive Agency for Website Support

St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) January 29, 2010 -- The Net Impact, a St. Louis-based Internet marketing and web design firm, proudly announces their partnership with the Karla Smith Foundation (KSF), an organization focused on working to provide support to family and friends of someone with mental health problems or who lost a loved one to suicide. The Net Impact will be hosting and maintaining the non-profit’s website,, in addition to providing search engine optimization services.

The Karla Smith Foundation’s work is an invaluable contribution to the effort to make the stigma surrounding mental illness a thing of the past. The foundation’s website is an excellent resource to direct families and friends of those facing mental illness issues to the information and support they need to cope with the effects of this widespread medical condition,” said Mandy Christanell, Project Manager, The Net Impact.

Karla Smith died of suicide on Jan. 13, 2003, at the age of 26, after a 7 year struggle with bipolar disorder. Out of this personal tragedy, her grieving family (Father, Tom; Mother, Fran; and twin brother, Kevin) created this inspiring organization two years after Karla’s death in 2005, with the intention to focus on the needs of the family and friends of those with mental health problems, as well as those who have lost a loved one to suicide. It is through Karla’s openness about her mental illness and the Smith’s openness about sharing her story that KSF continues to connect with so many people facing the challenges of mental illness.

The Karla Smith Foundation has recently partnered with BringChange2Mind, a non-profit organization created by Glenn Close, in a combined effort to erase the stigma of mental illness and to provide easy access to helpful mental health information and practical support. The idea of a national anti-stigma campaign was born of a partnership between Glenn Close and Fountain House, where Glenn volunteered out of an interest in mental illness due to the illnesses of her sister and nephew. KSF met the leaders of the campaign, including Glenn, in early December 2009 in New York City. KSF is working with daily to reply to emails and discussions generated as a result of the national-airing of a PSA, directed by Ron Howard.

“The Smith family’s experience of loss and the way it has turned into hope for others is very admirable, and we are very fortunate to be working with this organization,” said Steve Thomas, President, The Net Impact. “Karla Smith’s website creates a sense of community for people with similar experiences to that of the Smith family, and is a great platform for reaching out to so many families that find themselves in dire need of this assistance.”

The Karla Smith Foundation’s website is a place for people can get information about the foundation's mission, support groups, counseling services and educational programs. For more information on KSF, visit their website, or call 1-888-KSF-HOPE.
