The National Ovarian Cancer Coalition Kicks Off Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month By Ringing the Opening Bell at NASDAQ
Date:8/31/2017

The NOCC kicked-off September Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month in a big way by ringing the opening bell during the Market Bell Ceremony at the Nasdaq MarketSite in New York Times Square on Friday, September 1st. The NOCC’s New York Chapter Manager, Kitty Silverman, was in attendance for the event, and had the opportunity to address viewers on the need to educate women of the signs and symptoms of the disease, which is the 5th leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women.

This was the first of many national and regional events for the NOCC during September. The NOCC’s hard-hitting September campaign, Not Knowing is Killing Us® #KnowOvarian, features actual ovarian cancer survivors with messaging that aims to educate the public on the disease, which takes the lives of more than 14,000 women every year.

“We know that early diagnoses increases odds of survival,” states David Barley, CEO of the NOCC. “We want to empower women with the signs and symptoms of the disease for earlier diagnosis. We thank Vermillion and ASPIRA Labs for inviting the NOCC to attend this prestigious ceremony to help bring ovarian cancer into the spotlight where it deserves to be.”

The National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, founded in 1991, provides support to women, families, and caregivers across the United States through its earlier awareness, quality of life, community outreach, and research initiatives. To join the fight or find an awareness event near you, go to runwalk.ovarian.org or ovarian.org.
