Agreement Provides Florida Patient Safety Corporation with a Scalable, Powerful System in Support of Patient Safety Improvement for its Member Healthcare Providers
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) March 11, 2009 -- The Florida Patient Safety Corporation (FPSC), the first organization in the U.S. to be federally certified as a Patient Safety Organization (PSO), has chosen Quantros software to support data aggregation and submission to the Network of Patient Safety Databases (NPSD).
Quantros Patient Safety Organization Manager (PSOM) was designed specifically to help PSOs meet the requirements that are critical to federal certification. The technology platform is a proven, field-tested system that simplifies the entire data collection and reporting process and facilitates ongoing analysis, interaction and patient safety improvement efforts between PSOs and their member healthcare providers.
Dr. Ali Rashidee, the Director of Product Management for PSOM, explains that PSOs were created because of increasing legal pressure for disclosure of patient safety events. "Liability pressure was stifling the ability of healthcare organizations to focus on improving safety in an environment conducive to honest disclosure and discussion," he said. As a result, the Patient Safety and Quality Act of 2005 was enacted to create a legal environment that encourages providers to alleviate patient safety issues by ensuring that their work with the PSO cannot be used against them in federal court or disciplinary proceedings.
Administered by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the PSO Program was designed to help providers to increase liability protection via 'Confidentiality and Privilege' of Patient Safety Work Product (PSWP) offered in the PSO regulations, access to wider and deeper preventable medical error data, access to PSO services and consulting for patient safety improvement, and participation in a Network of Patient Safety Databases.
Superior Technology and Support Help FPSC Pick Quantros
Susan Moore, CEO of FPSC said the decision to partner with Quantros was based on a confidence that Quantros has the best technology to meet the organization's goals and will provide continued support.
"When working with Quantros we found the company to be extremely prepared and very responsive. We are more than confident that Quantros will not only help us meet the needs of our clients but also ensure our compliance with federal requirements … we know we will be ready to serve the needs of Florida providers and ultimately benefit patients," she added.
Tallahassee-based FPSC is a not-for-profit organization that was created by the Florida legislature in 2004, with an eye to improving patient safety. It was federally certified at the end of October 2008 by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). According to Moore, the organization is overseen by a board comprised of major healthcare stakeholders concerned about improving patient safety. Members include the Florida Medical Association, Florida Hospital Association, healthcare plans and the pharmaceutical industry.
Moore advises other PSOs to select a technology partner based on that company's ability to provide ongoing support. "We see Quantros not just as a software vendor but a partner in patient safety and quality of care," she said. "Obviously my goal and intent is to provide Florida's healthcare providers with a first class product to help them reduce deadly errors, Quantros will help us succeed with that mission," she said.
Chris Bethell, Vice President of Marketing and Product Management for Quantros said "We are honored that Florida Patient Safety Corporation chose Quantros PSOM as the technology solution to enable patient safety improvement efforts across its member healthcare providers. One of the key requirements of organizations desiring PSO status is the ability to provide a secure, means for aggregation, management, submission, and analysis of patient safety event data from participating healthcare facilities. Quantros PSOM, coupled with our support and services, ensures the Florida Patient Safety Corporation has a system that meets its needs both today and in the future. "
