The NALA and STARKART Help United Way Offer Disaster Relief to California Wildfire Victims
Date:11/20/2018

The recent Hill and Woolsey Fires in Southern California left a devastating path of destruction, burning numerous homes, buildings and more than 110,000 acres in Los Angeles and Ventura counties. In fact, the Woolsey Fire’s destructive toll has surpassed last year’s massive Thomas Fire, which was at the time the largest wildfire in modern California history.

In order to assist low-income individuals and families affected by the fires, The NALA, a boutique marketing agency, and STARKART, the leader in shopping cart advertising in North America, is donating to the United Way’s Southern California Disaster Relief Fund. The fund, created by United Way of Greater Los Angeles in partnership with United Way of Ventura County, will primarily provide longer-term support to help these people rebuild their lives. A percentage of the Fund will also support the American Red Cross® immediate response efforts.

“If you had not heard of Thousand Oaks, CA before November 7 you know it now. From the tragic shooting that killed 12 to the devastating fires that spread 150 square miles,” said Keith H Sonne, Executive Vice President of STARKART and the NALA. “My family was evacuated in the middle of the night. The last thing we did was load in our 2-year-old grandson who was evacuating for the second time that day, just as the power went out. The whole community was outside packing their cars. As we were driving away, hundreds and hundreds of first responders were running in. How can we ever say thank you? How can we help those who have lost everything?”

To make a direct donation that will help support economically vulnerable victims of the fires, please visit https://www.unitedwayla.org/en/give/disaster-relief-fund/. You can also text “2018fires” to 41444, or visit https://app.mobilecause.com/f/23ef/n?vid=4n8t to donate to Ventura County only.

No stranger to giving back locally, EBS supports and is a charity partner with two local charities: Dream With Me Foundation and Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation. Dream With Me Foundation is dedicated to providing students and non-professional musicians of all ages accessibility to vocal and instrumental performance, education and training through scholarships and grants, with no limitation as to education, race or religion. Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation provides financial and emotional support to families of children with cancer living in Santa Barbara, Ventura and San Luis Obispo counties.

EBS has also instituted a collective cause marketing program wherein it encourages businesses across the country to host donation drives during this time of year. It helps Toys for Tots, for example, fulfill its mission every year, which is to collect new, unwrapped toys each holiday season and distribute them as Christmas gifts to children in need. In addition to collecting for Toys for Tots this year, charity partners include Soles4Souls, Operation Warm, The Greatest Generations Foundation, GlobalGiving, Operation Homefront, and StandUp For Kids.
