The Makers of BENADRYL(R) and the National Park Foundation Encourage People to Pledge to Spend More Time Enjoying Outdoor Moments

Discovery Channel's Josh Bernstein Offers Fun and Wallet-Friendly Tips for Enjoying the Great Outdoors

FORT WASHINGTON, Pa., April 20 /PRNewswire/ -- The makers of BENADRYL(R) and the National Park Foundation (NPF) today announced a partnership designed to encourage everyone, including people with allergies, to pledge to spend more time enjoying outdoor moments with friends and family.

To kick off the campaign, Discovery Channel's international explorer and wilderness survival expert, Josh Bernstein, set up camp at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, NY, on April 17, 2009, reminding people that spring is the perfect time to start enjoying the outdoors, and camping is a great way to do just that. Taking a camping trip can also be a great option for a fun family getaway that doesn't break the bank - camping out at a National Park can cost as little as $10 a night.

Josh suggests the following tips for enjoying the outdoors and helping to keep your family camping trip fun and incident-free.

  • Select the Perfect Campground - Whether it's a national park or your own backyard, choose a fun and unique location that suits your needs, budget and skill level.
  • Know Your Surroundings - Where you set up camp could make or break your experience. Make sure your tent is on elevated ground in case of rain. Check whether there is a nearby water source and find an adequate cooking spot.
  • Pack Essentials - Don't forget necessities such as water and a flashlight, as well as a first aid kit and any medication you may need. For people with allergies, this probably means an allergy medication that can help relieve the symptoms of an unexpected allergy attack. Just as you would at home, keep all medicines and first aid supplies out of reach of the kids.
  • Test Gear - If it's your first time camping or if you've bought new equipment, be sure to test it before your trip. You don't want to arrive at the campsite only to find your lantern doesn't work or realize you're missing a tent pole.
  • Clean Up - We all love the outdoors and we want to make sure that these places remain vital in our lifetime and for our children and grandchildren. A good rule of thumb is to leave trails and campsites better than when you found them by collecting and properly disposing of your trash and any trash you find along the way.

"We are proud to partner with the National Park Foundation to protect our parks and encourage everyone to visit these very special places," says Jorge Leon, BENADRYL(R) Product Director. "We understand that for people with allergies, enjoying time in one of America's National Parks, or any outdoor destination, may take just a little more planning, but the outdoor moments you enjoy with friends and family make it worth it."

The makers of BENADRYL(R) and the National Park Foundation are working together to protect moments outdoors - moments you wouldn't want to miss due to allergies. That's why the makers of BENADRYL(R) are donating $200,000 to the NPF. In addition, until June 15th, a $1 donation will be made each time someone visits and enters a unique promotion code found on specially marked packages of BENADRYL(R) (minimum donation $50,000/maximum donation $100,000).(1) Consumers are also encouraged to visit where they can pledge to enjoy a moment outdoors.

Vin Cipolla, Vice Chair, National Park Foundation says, "Americans are blessed with some of the most spectacular landscapes in the world right in their backyards. The support from the makers of BENADRYL(R) and BENADRYL(R) users across the country will help the National Park Foundation care for our parks and ensure that present and future generations can continue to enjoy them."
