The Kidney TRUST's Chronic Kidney Disease Rapid-Screening Program Hits 10,000
Date:8/10/2009

Staff and volunteers of The Kidney TRUST performed their 10,000th screen for chronic kidney disease ("CKD") during a health fair in Oakland, California in late July. The TRUST's screening program, which was launched in October 2007, is conducted in partnership with employers and community organizations around the country. The goal of the program is to identify individuals with signs of CKD, ideally in relatively early stages when it is still treatable, and to motivate them to seek appropriate medical evaluation and care and lifestyle changes. Recent studies show that an estimated 26 million Americans have CKD, and 90% don't know it.

Burlingame, CA (PRWEB) August 10, 2009 -- Staff and volunteers of The Kidney TRUST performed their 10,000th screen for chronic kidney disease ("CKD") during a health fair at La Clinica de la Raza in Oakland, California in late July.

The Kidney TRUST's President and CEO Barbara Lawson commented, "We're very pleased to have reached this milestone, which shows that we're helping to create a new way of thinking about kidney disease. We're seeing the impact - the people we reach go away with knowledge about kidney disease that millions of Americans don't have, including the understanding that they can take action to prevent or slow the progression of CKD to kidney failure."

The Kidney TRUST was founded in 2006 by DaVita Inc., a leading provider of kidney care in the United States. The Kidney TRUST is an independent, nonprofit organization that believes everyone should be empowered to take a proactive role in their health. Toward that end, the TRUST is seeking to reduce the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD) through free, rapid screening in non-medical settings and to provide financial assistance to people affected by CKD.
