The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey Awards Grants to Support Community-Based Health and Arts Programs Throughout the State

The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey announced today the award of $691,250 in grants to 35 non-profit organizations that are working to improve the health and quality of life of New Jersey residents. The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey is the charitable arm of Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, and these grants represent the third round of awards in 2013 to community-based organizations in the state.

“The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey is committed to supporting non-profit organizations that are making a positive impact in the lives of New Jersey residents,” said Robert A. Marino, Chairman of the Board of Directors of The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey and Chairman and CEO of Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey. “We commend these organizations for their work and proudly support their efforts to enrich the quality of life in New Jersey’s communities.”

The third round of awards includes the following 35 grants:

  •     Algonquin Arts in Manasquan, received a grant of $10,000 to support its Page and Stage Program. The program uses theatre arts to bring story characters to life to captivate and foster an appreciation for reading in young children. The grant funds the program at learning centers serving Head Start children in Asbury Park, Neptune, Howell, Keyport, Red Bank and Freehold.
  •     American Labor Museum/Botto House National Landmark in Haledon, received a grant of $10,000 to support the Saturday Arts Program. The program provides free visual and performing arts classes to children in grades 3-5 living in Paterson and surrounding towns.            
  •     Appel Farm Arts and Music Center in Elmer, received a general operating support grant of $10,000 to fund its community a
