The Hanley Foundation Salutes Alex Wilson and The Resilient Design Institute
Date:8/23/2013

Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) August 23, 2013

Hanley Wood, LLC and the Hanley Foundation are pleased to honor the work of Alex Wilson and the Resilient Design Institute. As we approach the midpoint of the 2013 Hurricane Season, and with the East Coast still recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Sandy in 2012, there is no better time to renew our concentration and commitment to sustainable and resilient building techniques.

Alex Wilson, recipient of the 2010 Hanley Award for Vision and Leadership in Sustainable Housing, founded The Resilient Design Institute (RDI) in 2012. The institute is committed to advancing practical solutions that can be employed by communities, businesses, and individuals to adapt and thrive amid the accelerating social, ecological and climatological change being experienced today. Alex notes that “a big segment of society doesn’t believe in climate change. I believe those people still want to keep their children and grandchildren safe in the face of an unexpected event such as a tornado or flood or cyber-terrorism. Resilient strategies accomplish that and simultaneously move us toward sustainability.”

“Getting the support from the Hanley Award was instrumental in launching the institute,” says Alex. “I’m very excited about resilience and what that offers looking ahead.”

This year’s winner of the Hanley Award for Vision and Leadership in Sustainable Housing is Dennis Creech, co-founder of Southface, one of the nation’s leading education, advocacy and research organizations promoting sustainable homes, workplaces and communities. Creech will be honored at a celebratory dinner to take place at the conclusion of the Vision 2020 Summit in Washington D.C. on September 4.
