The Department of Pain Medicine and Palliative Care at Beth Israel Medical Center is Named 2009 Center of Excellence Award Winner by the American Pain Society

NEW YORK, March 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The Department of Pain Medicine and Palliative Care at Beth Israel in New York is a 2009 winner of the American Pain Society's Center of Excellence Award. This award recognizes a small number of pain centers for excellence and innovation in interdisciplinary care, academic contributions, and involvement with the community. It acknowledges the many challenges encountered in maintaining a team of professionals able to provide outstanding care for patients with all types of acute and chronic pain disorders, both in the hospital and in ambulatory practice.

"We are very honored to receive this award from the American Pain Society, the country's most respected interdisciplinary society of pain specialists," said Dr. Russell K. Portenoy, Chairman of the Department of Pain Medicine and Palliative Care at Beth Israel. This is the third year of a competition that selects six programs per year based on applications describing the multidisciplinary nature of the clinical program, innovation, relationship to the community, and contributions to quality advancement and research. The American Pain Society Clinical Centers of Excellence in Pain Management Awards Program helps advance the quality of pain management in the United States by recognizing and rewarding excellence in quality clinical care.
