The Chopra Center Launches Mind-Body Healing Program for Chronic Pain
Date:8/29/2013

Carlsbad, CA (PRWEB) August 29, 2013

This September 23-28 the Chopra Center for Wellbeing will offer Perfect Health: Healing from Pain ? a 6-day mind-body healing program for people diagnosed with pain disorder or coping with chronic pain. Led by board-certified physicians who are also experts in holistic, mind-body healing modalities, including Ayurveda, meditation, and yoga, the Healing from Pain program offers a unique, integrative approach to chronic pain that addresses the whole person, including the mind, body, and spirit.

"In conventional Western medicine, very little attention is paid to the emotional component of chronic pain and to the role that the mind plays in the experience of chronic pain," said Chopra Center Medical Director, Sheila Patel, M.D.

"To take a typical example, if someone suffers from recurring back pain and goes to a conventional doctor, he or she will most likely be prescribed a strong narcotic such as hydrocodone or oxycodone. Painkillers may temporarily mask the symptoms of pain but they don’t get to the root of the underlying issues that make chronic pain an ongoing problem.

"At Healing from Pain, our focus is on getting to the root causes that contribute to a person’s chronic pain, including the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects aspects of life," Dr. Patel said.
