The Children's Hospital Gets Special Gift from 'Tour de Kids' Charity Bike Ride
Date:9/24/2007

Ace Hardware employees ride from Chicago to Denver to raise $1 million for

Children's Miracle Network hospitals

DENVER, Sept. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The Children's Hospital in Denver will serve as the finish line for the Ace Hardware "Tour de Kids" charity bike ride on Monday, September 24. The 18-day ride, covering more than 1,100 miles, is an effort to raise $1 million for Children's Miracle Network (CMN) hospitals across the country. Cyclists are expected to arrive at the hospital at approximately 2:30 p.m. They will be greeted by a group of patients and their families, and present a $50,000 donation to the hospital.

Prior to completing the ride, the Ace Hardware "Helpful Riders" will have the opportunity to take a tour of The new Children's Hospital in Aurora. Visiting the 1.45 million-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility will give the riders a tangible sense of how important their contribution is to the community.

"The Children's Hospital is excited to welcome these cyclists. They are giving so much of themselves by raising money to ensure the best care possible for children in the Rocky Mountain region," said Jennifer Lackey, local director of the Children's Miracle Network. "We sincerely thank these riders and Ace Hardware for their ongoing support of The Children's Hospital, which is an affiliate of Children's Miracle Network."

The "Tour de Kids" kicked off on Friday, September 7 at Ace Hardware's corporate headquarters in Oak Brook, Ill. The riders traveled in three legs -- the first from Oak Brook to Iowa City, Iowa; the second from Iowa City to Lincoln, Neb.; and the third and final leg from Lincoln to Denver. A different team of riders traveled each leg. More than 50 Ace Hardware corporate employees and retailers as well as executives and vendor partners have put in countless hours of training.

"We're continually impressed -- but not surprised -- by our employee and vendor participation in this event
