June E. Osborn, MD, Lifetime Achievement Award:
June E. Osborn served as President of the Josiah Macy, Jr. Foundation from 1996 to 2007 after a distinguished career in academia for over thirty years. Dr. Osborn has served in advisory roles for U.S. federal health agencies, private foundations, and the World Health Organization, particularly in areas of virology, vaccines, infectious diseases, and public health. Dr. Osborn has received nine honorary degrees and numerous awards. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the U.S. Pharmacopoeia, on the Editorial Board of the Journal of the American Medical Association, and on the Board of Trustees of the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases.
Nelson L. Adams, MD; Distinguished Alumni Award:
A board certified obstetrician-gynecologist, Dr. Adams practices in North Miami-Dade County and is the President of the National Medical Association. He was the first African-American Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the first African-American Chief of Staff of North Shore Medical Center. In 1992, he founded the Maternal Child Health Initiative (MCHI), an award-winning model for providing care to at-risk, low-income, pregnant women. Currently, Dr. Adams is the Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Jackson North Medical Center and President of N.L. Adams, M.D. and Associates. He is also President and Chairman of Access Health Solutions (AHS), a managed care company providing services in 26 counties in Florida. Under Dr. Adams' leadership, AHS now serves more than 94,000 beneficiaries with 525 health care providers.
