The Certified Nurse Midwives of Women’s Excellence in Midwifery, Chris Borowski and Tracie Achrem, end year 2012 with the first midwife birth at Crittenton Hospital located in Rochester, Michigan
Date:1/16/2013

Rochester, Michigan (PRWEB) January 16, 2013

On the evening of December 31st, 2012, a beautiful baby girl was born into dimly lit, quiet, comfortable, and home-like environment with very minimal intervention and immediately placed skin-to-skin on her mother’s chest to be kept warm. She was left to bond there until her umbilical cord stopped pulsating, while being comforted by the sound of her mother’s heartbeat. The only voices heard where those of her mother and father welcoming her into the world. Moments later her new father cut the umbilical cord, and with minimal interruption, the three were able to bond during one of the most memorable moments a new family will ever share.

This was not a home birth. This was the first Certified Nurse Midwife birth to take place at Crittenton Hospital Medical Center located in downtown Rochester, Michigan. The midwives of Women’s Excellence in Midwifery, Tracie Achrem and Chris Borowski, both attended the birth with Dr. Ginger Connor as the collaborating physician. Crittenton Hospital, in partnership with Women’s Excellence in Midwifery, is now supportive of midwives and advocates a midwifery philosophy of care. Tracie and Chris support this philosophy by providing optimal well woman care that involves high touch and low intervention throughout pregnancy, labor, birth, and beyond. “Experiencing labor and giving birth with a Certified Nurse Midwife in a hospital setting, allows women the very best of both worlds. Women and their families are provided options in their care,” said Borowski CNM. “Certified Nurse Midwives in the hospital setting for labor and birth provides a woman and her baby immediate resources and safety for situations that may might occur during a birth that unexpectedly fall outside of normal and routine,” adds Achrem CNM. “Envision taking a family trip in a vehicle equipped with surround airbags. You may never need to use them, but just knowing they’re there makes the trip much more comfortable and enjoyable.”

Borowski and Achrem are both Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs) each with a Master's Degree in Nursing Science (MSN). They are licensed advanced practice nurses (APNs) in the State of Michigan with a specialized skill set to provide a variety of women's health services, obstetric care, and labor and delivery services. Borowski and Achrem are fully supported by the well-trained, respected OB/GYNs of Women's Excellence in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Women's Excellence in Midwifery is a free standing facility within the Women's Excellence complex, conveniently located in Lake Orion, MI on South Lapeer Road.
