The Arthritis National Research Foundation Welcomes Christine Schwab
Date:2/25/2013

Long Beach, CA (PRWEB) February 25, 2013

The Arthritis National Research Foundation (ANRF) is proud to announce its newest Advisory Board member, television personality and three time author, Christine Schwab. Diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at the height of her television career, Schwab knows firsthand the hardships of living with arthritis and is eager and passionate about spreading the word and giving back.

Having appeared on a variety of talk shows such as Oprah, The Today Show, and Live! with Regis and Kelly, Schwab is an expert on offering fashion, beauty, and lifestyle advice.
She broke her silence after keeping her disease a secret for twenty years and published her memoir, Take Me Home From the Oscars: Arthritis, Television, Fashion and Me, a tell-all that mixed a behind the scenes look at her glamorous television career and her disease. She knew that with her platform in the media, she could spread the word and show that an arthritis diagnosis did not mean you had to stop living your life.

“My doctor got me into a research program for the first biologic. After nine months I went into medical remission. I owe my life to research and my doctor,” Schwab said. “Research is the answer. Through research we will find more medicines and a cure. This is a special group of dedicated people. I am delighted and honored to join their efforts.”

Schwab credits her illness as the impetus that changed her life and taught her to be open and truthful about her condition. She also launched her own Facebook page, “Christine’s Kid’s” where she shares stories and sheds light on Juvenile Arthritis: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Christines-Kids/218905234862177?ref=ts&fref=ts.

“Sharing her celebrity and passion for arthritis research and raising public awareness, Christine Schwab brings her unparalleled energy to emphasizing the importance of arthritis research,” said Arthritis National Research Foundation executive director Helene Belisle. “Christine’s story and journey inspires us all – those with arthritis and those who know someone who is suffering. We are delighted to welcome Christine and honored to work together towards a cure.”

The Arthritis National Research Foundation fills its Advisory Board with qualified experts in their field who share a connection to arthritis and who are motivated to finding ways to discover treatments and cures. Board members advise, take part in discussions and events, and stay connected to the innovative work being done to fund arthritis research. Having Schwab on board will be a tremendous resource in educating the public about the organization’s mission and finding a cure for all forms of arthritis.
