VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., Dec. 17, 2009 /PRNewswire/ -- The Amerigroup Foundation today honored 12 Hampton Roads-area non-profit organizations at its first 'Breakfast of Champions' awards celebration in Virginia Beach. The breakfast keynote speaker was world-renowned 'champion' and four-time heavyweight boxing title-holder - Evander Holyfield.
Addressing a packed house of Amerigroup 'Real Caring' volunteers and local community organizations at company headquarters, Mr. Holyfield said he felt right at home: "Having started my boxing career in Hampton Roads I will always have an affinity for this community and the organizations who serve the area's most needy. There was a time, in my youth, when I was among those in need and it is because of volunteers like those recognized today, I was able to accomplish great things. The Amerigroup Foundation should be commended for acknowledging how these everyday champions help foster and nourish world-class champions."
The following local charities received a $1,000 grant from the Amerigroup Foundation, for their exemplary grassroots efforts in the community:
"What better way to recognize the anniversary of Amerigroup Corporation and continue in our belief of giving back to those who support the people we serve," said John E.
