ThalesNano Inc. and the Christian Doppler Laboratory for Microwave Chemistry in Graz, Austria Collaborate on Flow Chemistry Technologies

BUDAPEST and GRAZ, Austria, November 19 /PRNewswire/ -- ThalesNano Inc. and the Christian Doppler Laboratory for Microwave Chemistry (CDLMC) located at Karl-Franzens-University in Graz today announced a scientific collaboration on flow/microwave chemistry research. The project will focus on the application of flow reactors for organic synthesis and the development of novel technologies utilizing ThalesNano's background in continuous processing. ThalesNano and the Christian Doppler Research Association (CDG) will jointly provide financial support for the collaboration.

Dr. Laszlo Urge, CEO of ThalesNano Inc, said "We joined forces with one of the leading research laboratories in Europe for the application of our technologies. This will enable us to jointly develop novel methods and environmentally friendly solutions with our technology. The Christian Doppler Research Association in Austria provides a great example on how to effectively support basic and applied research and innovation. The Christian Doppler Laboratory for Microwave Chemistry under the leadership of Professor C. Oliver Kappe has proven over the last several years how the adaptation of new technologies can impact the development of science and technology in the field of chemistry. We expect that the collaboration results in further innovations."

Professor Kappe, the Director of the CDLMC, commented "We believe that this collaboration with ThalesNano, one of the leading companies involved in flow chemistry instrument and application development will result in the creation of further important technologies, from which the entire chemistry community in both academia and industry could benefit from.

Professor Ferenc Darvas, president and chairman of ThalesNano Inc. said: "This agreement emphasizes that collaborations between academia and industry are essential and can create economically viable results. The Christian Doppler Laboratory for Microwave Chemistry is leading scientific application development and contributed significantly to the general acceptance of microwave technologies so far."

About ThalesNano Inc.

ThalesNano is a world-leading provider of flow chemistry instruments for laboratories with well over 50% share on the explosively developing market of laboratory flow reactors. Its H-CubeTM , continuous-flow hydrogenation reactors with no outside hydrogen gas source (also available for scale up), has been used in hundreds of labs in four continents. After being awarded as one of the 100 most technologically significant and innovative new products of 2005 by the R&D Magazine, ThalesNano this year successfully generalized the concept of H-Cube by creating and bringing to the market the X-Cube, a high-pressure, high-temperature general purpose flow reactor for liquid or liquid/gas phase reactions. Apart from instrument development, ThalesNano provides synthetic and scale-up solutions to the industry, together with training and technical support.

Flow chemistry, an emerging technology allows the highly effective and rapid synthesis of organic compounds, in particular under hitherto unrealizable hazardous reaction conditions. Additional benefits are seen in the area of green chemistry and lab automation. This technology furthermore promotes the rapid scale-up from mg to kg quantities with quick turnover, high quality stabilization, and reduced footprint leading to minimized CAPEX and OPEX

About Christian Doppler Research Association

The Austrian Christian Doppler Research Association (CDG) is a non-profit association that aims at promoting application oriented basic research in the areas of natural sciences, technology and economy. It enables talented scientists in renowned research centers to achieve high-quality research and knowledge transfer in line with the demands and to the advantage of the CDG member companies. The CD Labs are jointly funded by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Economics and Labour and the Austrian National Foundation for Research, Technology and Development as well as by contributions from the cooperating members ( The Christian Doppler Laboratory for Microwave Chemistry (CDLMC) was established in 2006 and performs basic and applied research on microwave chemistry in collaboration with industrial partners (
