Texas Truck Accident Lawyers Praise New Safety Technology
Date:4/6/2013

(PRWEB) April 06, 2013

The safe driving practices of drivers in the oil and gas industry have drawn increasing scrutiny and have become very important as the oil exploration and production industry continues to grow. In response, a California company called Telogis has created software that not only tracks drivers’ behaviors and activities, but also offers educational options to improve drivers’ knowledge of safety regulations and practices. The system not only offers benefits for the drivers and managers from the gas and oil industry, but according to Texas truck accident lawyers Danziger & De Llano, it also marks an opportunity to improve driver safety for those who share the roads with oil tankers and other petroleum industry trucks travelling on popular highways.

The new technology from Telogis will not only track specific behaviors such as sudden, hard braking, but also speed, acceleration, and even whether or not the driver is utilizing their safety belt. The information is not only available as a point of immediate feedback to the driver via an enterprise dashboard, but is also sent directly to fleet managers who can respond when a driver’s behavior warrants correction. The software can even monitor gas usage and maintenance needs.

Truck drivers responsible for transporting petroleum products are under increasing pressure to drive long distances at all hours of the day and night, and statistics from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) have shown a high correlation between areas with large number of oil and gas production plants, and fatal oil and gas-related truck accidents. A study conducted by NIOSH places the state of Texas at nearly three times the number of these deaths as compared to the next highest state in the nation, and Paul Danziger of Danziger & De Llano has represented many of the families of victims of these types of accidents. “More often than not, accidents involving truck drivers transporting heavy loads are caused by driver error. These drivers are under tremendous pressure to meet deadlines and production schedules, and safety is often the first thing sacrificed. If this technology works, it may save lives.”

Telogis’ cloud-based technology not only offers oil and gas companies the opportunity to increase efficiencies in their operations, but more importantly to create a greater level of safety for their drivers and the public that shares the roads with them. With truck accidents not only having a high human cost, they can also add tremendously to a petroleum company’s bottom line when their drivers are involved in fatal or catastrophic accidents. Danziger indicates that his firm has represented the families of people killed in Texas truck accidents that have cost companies millions.
