Texas Senator Tommy Williams Honored as 'Champion for Children' by the AMERIGROUP Foundation

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., Feb. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The AMERIGROUP Foundation today announced that Senator Tommy Williams of The Woodlands has been honored with its "Champion for Children" award.

The award is part of the AMERIGROUP Foundation's national program recognizing outstanding public advocacy efforts by government and community leaders in improving the health and well-being of the nation's children.

"Our goal is to work together with local leaders and citizens for the benefit of healthier communities, and that starts with children," said Aileen McCormick, CEO of AMERIGROUP Community Care in Texas. "Senator Williams and his efforts represent terrific examples of what we can all accomplish when we keep the end result in mind. His commitment to improving the Texas Medicaid system to encourage efficiency and preventive care offers a great example of how Texas can meet the critical goals of managing cost while also helping to improve the health of our children through innovative programs. We're thrilled to recognize Senator Williams for his work, and we're equally excited to witness achievements that will assist in making our kids and communities healthier."

To commemorate Senator Williams' commitment to children and their families a $2,500 Foundation check will be presented to the Interfaith of The Woodlands during a reception at the facility. Interfaith helps individuals in crisis through financial assistance for rent, mortgage, utilities, gasoline, prescription drug assistance, emergency shelter, food, family and individual counseling, job training, senior programs and child care.

Senator Williams said he is honored by the award and appreciative of the Foundation's support of The Woodlands.
