Date:3/26/2008

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., March 26 /PRNewswire/ -- The AMERIGROUP Foundation today announced that Senator Kirk Watson of Austin, Texas, has been honored with its "Champion for Children" award.

The award is part of the AMERIGROUP Foundation's national program recognizing outstanding public advocacy efforts by government and community leaders in improving the health and well-being of children.

"Our goal is to work together with local leaders and citizens for the benefit of healthier communities, and that starts with children," said Aileen McCormick, Chief Executive Officer of AMERIGROUP Community Care in Texas. "Senator Watson and his efforts represent terrific examples of what we can all accomplish when we keep the end result in mind. His commitment to supporting the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and his work to promote enrollment in Texas CHIP demonstrate an understanding of the long-term benefits of effective healthcare for children. We're thrilled to recognize Senator Watson for his work, and we're equally excited to witness achievements that will assist in making our kids and communities healthier."

To commemorate Senator Watson's commitment to children and their families, a contribution in the amount of $2,500 from the AMERIGROUP Foundation will be presented to the Austin Children's Shelter (ACS) during a reception at the facility. The Austin Children's Shelter is an emergency shelter offering a safe haven for children who are removed from their homes due to life- threatening abuse or neglect. For more than 20 years, ACS has provided high quality care and critical services to children in need to begin the healing process, with programs that include individual and group therapy, medical and dental care, and educational assistance.

In receiving the recognition, Senator Watson said he's honored by the award and appreciative of the AMERIGROUP Foundation's support of the Austin Children's Shelter.

"The AMERIGROUP Foundation's commitment and contributions focused on encouraging healthy families and communities have been tremendous," Watson said. "I appreciate the support of great organizations like the Austin Children's Shelter that positively impact so many lives in our community."
