VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., March 26 /PRNewswire/ -- The AMERIGROUP Foundation today announced that Senator Kirk Watson of Austin, Texas, has been honored with its "Champion for Children" award.
The award is part of the AMERIGROUP Foundation's national program recognizing outstanding public advocacy efforts by government and community leaders in improving the health and well-being of children.

To commemorate Senator Watson's commitment to children and their families, a contribution in the amount of $2,500 from the AMERIGROUP Foundation will be presented to the Austin Children's Shelter (ACS) during a reception at the facility. The Austin Children's Shelter is an emergency shelter offering a safe haven for children who are removed from their homes due to life- threatening abuse or neglect. For more than 20 years, ACS has provided high quality care and critical services to children in need to begin the healing process, with programs that include individual and group therapy, medical and dental care, and educational assistance.
In receiving the recognition, Senator Watson said he's honored by the award and appreciative of the AMERIGROUP Foundation's support of the Austin Children's Shelter.
