Texas Laparoscopic Consultants Profiled on ABC-13 TV as the Only Practice in Houston Offering Single-Incision, Quick Recovery Weight Loss Surgery

A recent profile by a KTRK-TV, a local television news affiliate, is bringing to light a new technique available at Houston weight loss surgery practice Texas Laparoscopic Consultants that improves the recovery process and the aesthetic results for patients who undergo surgical treatment for morbid obesity.

(Vocus) November 18, 2009 -- Houston-based Texas Laparoscopic Consultants is a bariatric surgery practice that offers a new procedure designed to help people lose large amounts of weight with a quick recovery and no visible scarring. And the community is taking notice. A recent news feature on Houston ABC affiliate KTRK-TV Channel 13 brought some light onto the practice’s use of single-incision weight loss surgery. Texas Laparoscopic Consultants is the only practice in the area that is performing this technique, and, in an interview with ABC-13’s Healthcheck reporter Christi Myers, Dr. Sherman Yu says single-incision surgery can work wonders in patients who undergo procedures like gastric sleeve in Houston. “With this newer procedure, people are actually losing just as much weight as a gastric bypass – but the risks are about half of a gastric bypass because we’re not rerouting any of the intestine.”

Bariatric surgery procedures are performed to help patients who are considered morbidly obese – typically 80 to 100 pounds overweight – lose large amounts of weight and reduce the risk of developing severe health problems.
