Temporary Tattoos Help Keep Kids Safe at School and on Field Trips or Family Outings
Date:8/30/2013

Tucson, AZ (PRWEB) August 30, 2013

As the new school year kicks off, parents, teachers and extra-curricular supervisors inevitably think about child safety. Whether ensuring students don’t get separated from a group or safeguarding children with allergies, adults are looking for dependable ways to protect vulnerable kids. Temporary tattoos are becoming an important tool in those strategies.

ALLERGIES
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as many as 6 percent of U.S. children under age 18 have a food allergy, and the prevalence of food allergies and associated anaphylaxis apparently is on the rise. And it isn’t just food allergies that cause parental concern: Many children have allergies to plants and pollens, chemicals and insect bites, as well.

Temporary tattoos can alert (or remind) caregiving adults about allergies, as well as provide instructions should an incident occur.

WANDERING AND ASD
Children and adults with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are prone to wandering, or “elopement,” often because something captures their interest or because something frightens them, like loud noises or bright lights. According to research conducted by the Interactive Autism Network (IAN), nearly half (49 percent) of children with autism attempt to wander from a safe environment---almost four times the rate of unaffected children. They are eight times more likely to wander between the ages of 7 and 10.

Because those with ASD often are not communicative, a well-placed temporary tattoo with a caregiver’s phone number can often save valuable time when it comes to returning a wanderer to safety.

FIELD TRIPS AND EXCURSIONS
Try as parents may to alert children about the perils of talking to strangers, school field trips seem to cast such warnings to the wind. Off-site excursions are occasions when children are entrusted to adults who, themselves, actually qualify as strangers -- other parents and school staff and with whom children are not familiar.

Not only may these adults be perceived as “strangers,” their authority may be questionable, as well. To a small child, the cashier in the gift shop may be seen the same kind of “supervising adult” as an assigned chaperone, so an unplanned shopping excursion may seem perfectly acceptable.

Using temporary tattoos with the cell phone number of a trip chaperone can ensure that shopaholics, distracted kids, and those who want just a little more time with a fascinating display, are quickly reunited with the group.

SPORTING EVENTS
League and tournament events often find young athletes separated from parents and prone to go off together in search of food, friends on other teams, and generally investigating the proceedings. Because these events, often attracting competitors from multiple states, are conducted in large, unfamiliar areas, it’s not uncommon for even preteens to get lost. Players can proudly sport a team temporary tattoo bearing their logo, as well as a coach’s or team mom’s cell phone number.

CUSTOMIZED SAFETY
Temporary tattoos can be customized for teams, school groups or church groups, and can be designed to be personalized with changeable phone numbers using ink-safe pens, like those offered by Sportsafe Markers. For example, schools and teams can “ink in” phone numbers of different coaches, sponsors or teachers for a variety of events.
