Tellurex Sends tPOD1™ to Light Up Orphanage in Uganda
Date:6/18/2013

Traverse City, Michigan (PRWEB) June 18, 2013

Tellurex Corporation of Traverse City, Michigan today announced it will deploy tPOD1s to light each of the 80 homes at the Christian Life Orphanage in Seeta, Uganda.

The tPOD1s will be distributed to the orphanage as part of New Hope Church of Traverse City’s mission trip during the third week of June.

The partnership between the church and Tellurex formed as a result of a chance meeting between Tellurex Program Manager, Richard Harmon and Patrick Siler, one of the facilitators of the mission trip.

In conversation, one thing led to another and within 30 minutes Harmon was making arrangements to provide enough tPOD1s to provide bright, clean, safe, LED lighting for each of the 80 homes at the orphanage, which is located approximately 30 miles outside of the Ugandan capitol, Kampala.

Harmon stated that he was excited about the partnership and the impact the tPOD1 LED light will have on those living at the orphanage, “The tPOD1 will reduce the cost of lighting at the orphanage which now relies on kerosene lanterns for lighting. It will also improve safety and indoor air quality. tPOD1 lighting will be far superior to their current lanterns.”

Siler agreed that the partnership is one that can dramatically help lighting conditions “Our intention for this mission trip was to shine a light, now we can do that both literally and spiritually.”

This gift was made possible by the pledges of supporters of a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign that launched the tPOD1 in 2012, as well as donations made by Tellurex Corporation in conjunction with a celebrity gifting suite event at the 2012 American Music Awards. In all, there are 88 tPOD1 units being delivered during the third week of June. Usage training will be facilitated by 15 participants the mission trip from the New Hope Church.

Additionally, Tellurex has developed a sustainable business model wrapped around the tPOD1 involving localized production, using locally sourced materials for the candles that are the energy source for the tPOD1. The capability to produce these “batteries” for electric lighting solutions was inconceivable for developing world villages until this revolutionary product was introduced.

In addition to the orphanage donations, meetings have been arranged with policy and decision makers inside Uganda to learn about the tPOD1, which has the potential to enhance the lives of the estimated 1.7 billion people worldwide who do not have access to modern lighting driven by an electrical grid.

Tellurex has been producing the tPOD1 candle-powered generator in Traverse City, Michigan for 6 months. To learn more about the tPOD1 and other personal power generators offered by Tellurex, please visit their website http://www.buytpod.com.
