Runners Encouraged to Join ZERO -- The Project to End Prostate Cancer to Take Strides for the Cause
WASHINGTON, April 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Spring is in the air across the country and runners are hitting the pavement to ramp up their running regimes in preparation for upcoming races. ZERO -- The Project to End Prostate Cancer has joined forces with the Bank of America Chicago Marathon and the Marine Corps Marathon to build upon its Team ZERO endurance program and has formed teams to run in both races. If you want to run for a great cause -- ending prostate cancer -- Team ZERO is the team to join in 2009.
ZERO recognizes that maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle helps prevent many diseases, including prostate cancer. Team ZERO is a training program for individuals who wish to participate in races across the country to raise funds for prostate cancer education, screenings and research. This training program matches runners up with the races they'd like to run while helping end prostate cancer. Participating on this team can, in some cases, guarantee you a spot for a competitive run such as a large marathon.
ZERO formed its first team for the 2008 Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, DC on Oct. 26, 2008.
"Running has always been a passion of mine," said Jamie Bearse, COO of ZERO -- The Project to End Prostate Cancer and captain for Team ZERO for the 2008 Marine Corps Marathon. "I'm also passionate about ending prostate cancer which affects one in six American men. The opportunity to run on Team ZERO for my first marathon was the perfect way to combine my passions for a great cause!"
Slots are still available on Team ZERO for both the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on Oct. 11 and the Marine Corps Marathon on Oct. 25. To learn more about Team ZERO and to sign up, visit www.ZeroCancer.org/GI_Active_Events.
