Tarrant Plastic Surgery to Co-host Cosmetic Surgery Seminar Event
Date:9/27/2013

Keller, TX (PRWEB) September 27, 2013

Tarrant Plastic Surgery will be co-hosting a Cosmetic Surgery Seminar from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24 at its Southlake Surgery Center on 521 W. Southlake Blvd in Southlake Texas.

Seating is limited and attendees need to RSVP by calling 817-334-0030 by Oct. 18. The open house is an opportunity to learn about advancements in plastic surgery and view Tarrant’s facilities.

When choosing a cosmetic surgeon, training and certification matters. Unfortunately, understanding the alphabetic soup of degrees and certifications can be confusing. At Tarrant Plastic Surgery, Dr. Vishnu Rumalla is double-board certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Both are recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties. The ABMS is comprised of 24 Boards recognized for the highest of standards required to educate, train, review, and maintain quality and competency of its members. There are many entities and certifications which use the title “board” that are not recognized by the ABMS.

To become certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, a surgeon first has to complete a plastic surgery fellowship. For example, during his time at Indiana University, Dr. Rumalla performed thousands of procedures under the supervision of his board-certified mentors. Next, a surgeon has to pass comprehensive written and oral examinations. This process is designed to assure competence, character, and quality decision making. Certification takes years, but serves to best protect the public’s interest. Finally, a diplomate of the ABPS must undergo an annual process of maintenance, which includes keeping up adequate hospital privileges, peer review, continuing medical education, and lifelong examination. Furthermore, members must adhere to code of ethics which emphasizes patient safety, evidence based medicine, and compassionate care.
